We have been fans of Jones Road Beauty since it launched in 2020, and have loved founder Bobbi Brown’s “no-makeup” makeup aesthetic since the launch in 1991 of her first business, the eponymous Bobbi Brown brand (now owned by Estee Lauder). We like her story so much that we both read and loved her autobiography, Still Bobbi, that came out last year. She’s an inspirational businesswoman who loves helping women enhance their inner beauty.
We both use more Jones Road makeup products than any other brand. We have mature skin that we want to look natural, but better, and that’s Jones Road’s sweet spot. Imagine our thrill when the brand reached out to FabList and asked if we wanted to try some of their makeup and skincare products that we didn’t already use. Yes, please!
Below are our honest thoughts on the “new to us” products we recently tested, followed by a list of our favorite, tried-and-true Jones Road products.
New-To-Us Jones Road Products
Just Enough Tinted Moisturizer: We both tried this product because we use tinted moisturizer every day. It’s light but gives nice coverage of dark spots or red patches, and it definitely delivers on the “no-makeup” makeup look Bobbi is famous for. You look the same, but better, when wearing it. Jo found it a bit thick and blended it with a bit of face moisturizer to get it to apply more evenly. Chrissie was fine with the way it came out of the tube. Comes in 16 shades. This is a good one and looks like it will replace the other tinted moisturizers we’ve used for years. FYI, Chrissie got it in Beige, and Jo got it in Light.
Miracle Cream: Chrissie tried this one and, at first, found it SO thick, and a bit greasy after application, and she wasn’t sure she’d like it. However, given that her skin is getting much drier as she ages, she realized this is a terrific night cream because, after warming it a bit in her hand and applying it, the moisture feels locked in all night long. And when she used it in the morning and let it soak in a bit before putting other products on top, her skin felt super hydrated all day long. So if you’re looking for a super-rich, thick moisturizer, this one’s for you.
What the Foundation: This is a thicker foundation than Chrissie would normally wear, because she usually uses a tinted moisturizer similar to the Just Enough Tinted Moisturizer. The coverage is more than a tinted moisturizer; it’s good for going out or when you want a more “done” face. Her only complaint is that the smell isn’t great. FYI, Chrissie got it in Beige.
The Eyeshadow Stick: This is a good one we both tried and loved. A quick swipe over your eyelids makes them look all smoothed out and natural, but better. The Sand color that we both got is very neutral, but it brightens up the eyes. This will be on the reorder list.
Shower Gel: Jo ordered the shower gel and initially didn’t love it. But after using it a few more times, she’s come to like it. It doesn’t have a strong scent, and it’s a bit pricy, so she probably wouldn’t buy it for herself.
Shower Scrub: Jo loves a body scrub, and this one didn’t disappoint. After using it, her skin felt smoother, and the body lotion she applied afterward seemed to absorb better.
Body Oil: Chrissie uses body oil every day, so she was excited to try this one out. The smell is really nice (orange/grapefruit/lavender/helichrysum), although not super strong. It’s got a ton of great oils that moisturize the skin. The product feels very good going on damp skin, and feels smooth – not at all oily or sticky. It’s a good one. I only wish the scent were stronger and lasted longer, as I really like it and would love to smell like it all day!
The Mascara: Jo has been a fan of Jones Road mascara since she had a makeover in their Greenwich Village store a few years ago. The curved wand helps reach the inner and outer lashes, and you can apply a little for a natural look or layer it for a bolder look.
Our Tried and True Favorite Jones Road Products
Miracle Balm: Chrissie uses this one every day for a bit of super-natural-looking color on her cheeks (and any extra left on her fingertips goes on her lips or eyelids), and this is Jo’s primary blush. It comes in tons of color options (Jo uses both Dusty Rose and Flushed) and the color is buildable, so you can get a bit of a glow, or go for more color. It’s also moisturizing. You can apply with your fingers or their Everything Brush (people rave about the Jones Road brushes), and you can use a single color or mix them together. One “tub” lasts a loooooong time, and you can easily decant some into a little container for travel.
The Face Pencil: Chrissie loves this pencil and uses it EVERY DAY. It’s a creamy pencil that goes on smoothly and covers any dark spots, redness, blemishes, etc., or it can be used to even out skin tone. It comes in 28 color options (!), and it’s good to have one for your winter skin tone and one for your potentially darker summer skin tone. This is an essential daily product in Chrissie’s bag.
Face Shimmer Oil: Another great product, Shimmer Oil adds a glow to your face, décolletage, or collarbones, and looks great on a night out. This is the one product that, when Chrissie puts it on as a last step in evening makeup, she gets comments of “your skin looks great”. It doesn’t look like you have a shiny product on (it’s super sheer and you use a tiny amount), and it just looks like you have more of a glow. It’s a product you don’t know you want/need until you have it!
Fragrance: Shower Scent: Chrissie loves this fragrance, and it’s actually the only one she uses. It smells fresh and crisp and doesn’t give her a headache when she wears it!
