Below is our FabList of  our favorite books we’ve read in 2025…so far (in no particular order):

  • What Kind of Paradise: A Novel by Janelle Brown
Chrissie loved this book about a young woman raised off the grid by her ‘genius’ father…who also happens to be writing a manifesto.
  • My Friends: A Novel by Fredrik Backman
We both loved this book about a group of friends who are captured in one of the world’s most famous painting. Fast-forward 30 years, and the friends have grown up, but a chance encounter brings their stories of their youth back into the present via a young woman in foster care looking to find her way in the world.
  • Wild Dark Shore by Charlotte McConaghy
This bestseller is about a single father and his children who take care of the lighthouse on a remote island, which houses a research station that is home to a ‘seed repository’ of the world. When a woman washes up onshore to find the family but none of the research station’s workers, both sides must figure out who to trust and what the truth is.
  • The Maid’s Secret by Nita Prose
Chrissie enjoyed the next installment in the ‘Molly the Maid’ series of endearing books about the life of a neurodivergent woman, Molly, who is a hotel maid and must figure out how to manage murders and other intrigue as she is also figuring out how to read social cues in general. Start at the beginning of the series if you haven’t read any of the books in the series.
  • Heartwood: A Novel by Amity Gaige
This novel about the rescue operation of a woman who is lost hiking the Appalachian Trail looks at the course of events leading up to and surrounding the rescue operation via a few different lenses.
  • Careless People by Sarah Wynn-Williams
A must-read written by a Facebook whistleblower who was an early employee and deeply involved in the growth of Facebook from a political perspective.
  • Broken Country by Clare Leslie Hall
We both loved this book set on a farm in England that is a love story, a love triangle, and a question of both who has been killed and who is the killer. It’s about first loves, second chances, and the choices one makes that can impact many lives around you.
  • The Friday Afternoon Club: A Family Memoir by Griffin Dunne
A wonderful memoir about the crazy life of actor Griffin Dunne. The stories of his upbringing and his life are unbelievable.
  • The God of the Woods by Liz Moore
A bestseller about what happens when someone goes missing at a New England summer camp. It delves into the camp owners, the history of the camp, and the many layers of secrets surrounding the disappearance.
  • The Original Daughter by Jemimah Wei
Set in Singapore, the book is about a daughter and a cousin who is adopted into the family and the various paths their lives take as ambition, family ties, and love are tested.
