Summer is knocking at the door. Does your outdoor space need a refresh to prepare for BBQs with friends or just alone time outside? Here are our Fab5 suggestions to freshen up your backyard.

Outdoor Carpet: I love an outdoor carpet to set the stage, brighten the space, and make it easy to clean – you can hose it down or even vacuum it!
Outdoor Umbrellas: We have a few of these and drag them around our patio to block the sun. There are pole options (wood or aluminum, tilting or non-tilting) and umbrella fabric options (Sunbrella or cheaper polyester) depending on the look you want and the price you want to pay! I’ve ordered replacement umbrellas/canopies here.
Fun Chairs: I love this chair! It’s fun and functional, adds color and whimsy, and looks like a sculpture when not in use. For a colorful French flair, these chairs and benches are perfect!
Outdoor Furniture: My go-tos for outdoor furniture for my interior design clients are Restoration Hardware for teak and Serena and Lily for wicker. The furniture is nicely sized, well-made, and because there are retail locations, you can try it before you buy it! For a less expensive option, I bought this set for my daughter and it did the trick!
Garden Stools: I have these sprinkled around outside. They are easily moveable and are great to hold a drink, candle, or paperback and use as a foot-rest or extra seat. They come in all kinds of materials and colors.

Outdoor String Lights – I am into light in a backyard – candles, string lights, fire pits! Nothing changes a backyard more than these string lights – and so easy! String them up, plug them in, click the remote and a summer evening gets magical. I leave mine up all year round. If you have some already without a remote you can buy a timer/remote extension thing that let’s you easily adapt them. Highly recommend as the remote makes it so easy!
Wireless Table Lights – These little babies come in a few different finishes and are great for outdoor dining or side tables so you can have wireless light where you need it. I use mine indoors as well.
Crushed Mint Candle – Mint is my favorite new candle scent and it smells great outside (as well as indoors) – like you have mint growing nearby your sitting area! Relaxing and fresh scent. And you can never go wrong with one, five, or ten beautiful glassybabies glowing in your backyard (and they make a great gift as well)!
Sunbrella Cushions – My cushions from this vendor have been ‘out in the elements’ for 3 years now and look brand new. Change up a few cushions to spruce up the look of your outdoor space. You could also consider a new Sunbrella Umbrella if you’re in need of a new one.
Solo Stove – Want a wood-burning fire pit but not a fan of smoke? Solo makes a portable smokeless one that’s great for the backyard. I have one and am a fan. You can move it around, but I wouldn’t say it’s super ‘portable’. I have the screen on top to keep any sparks in as well. Or opt for a cute little tabletop fire pit that can act as a table light and doubles as a place to roast marshmallows!
