We recommend a lot of shows (see our full list of 2025 show recs, our 2024 favorites list, and our ‘best of all times’ recs for TV and for Movies, broken out by category).
For 2025 to date, these are our top choices (in no particular order):
- Landman: Paramount+.
Chrissie and her husband loved this one, starring Billy Bob Thornton, about Texas oil people. Many compare it to Yellowstone, but substitute oil instead of land/ranches. - The Gilded Age (Season 3), Series. Max.
We love going back in time to the late 1800s in NYC when the ‘New Money’ came on the scene via railroad and other industrialists. It’s by the creators of Downton Abbey, so you get the lives and drama of both the elite and the ‘servants’. - Stick, Series, Apple TV.
Chrissie and her husband enjoyed watching this show about an aging golfer (Owen Wilson) who takes a young golfer under his wing. It’s the story of both of their lives, their friendship, and their relationships with their families and their pasts. It’s a show that really grew on us every episode. - Careme, Series, Apple TV.
Chrissie really enjoyed this historical drama based on a real life chef/womanizer/spy during the time of Napoleon. You get aristocracy, love triangles, spy triangles, and food set in opulent palaces with amazing wardrobes. Watch in French with subtitles or dubbed (we recommend the subtitles). - Etoile, TV Series, Amazon Prime.
Chrissie wonders why this show, about an exchange of dancers/staff between the ballet companies of Paris and NYC, didn’t get more coverage. It is really good! Produced by the Magnificent Mrs. Maisel team, it’s well-cast, well-acted, and totally enjoyable. Can’t wait for a second season. - Hacks, TV Series, Max.
We all know and love Hacks, and if you don’t, then lucky you – you have multiple seasons of this terrific comedy about an aging comedian and her writing awaiting you! - White Lotus. Season 3 on HBO/Max.
You all know what this is about! Much more ‘dark drama’ this season, but everyone was talking about it for good reason. - The Pitt: TV Series on Max.
Joanne loved it, and Chrissie was hesitant as she isn’t a ‘doctor show’ person, but then she binged it on an international flight and loved it! It all unfolds in a single day in the emergency room. SO well done. - The Good Karma Hospital, TV Series, Amazon Prime.
We both watched this before our trip to India this spring, but loved it even if we weren’t going there! It’s about a small rural hospital in southern India that’s run by a British woman. It’s just a feel-good, interesting, enjoyable show! - The Residence. Series. Netflix.
This ‘who dunnit’ that takes place in the White House has a terrific main character (the detective trying to figure out the crime) and is a fun bingeable show. Another Shonda Rhimes masterpiece. - Running Point. TV Series on Netflix.
A good husband/wife show that is about a young woman (Kate Hudson) who finds herself suddenly managing an LA basketball team very much like the LA Lakers. - The Bear. Hulu. Season 4.
We all know the Bear by this point! We didn’t see the twist at the end on this one! - Department Q: TV Series on Netflix.
From the writer and director of The Queen’s Gambit, Matthew Goode stars as DCI Carl Morck – a brash, but brilliant detective leading a cold case unit in Edinburgh. If you liked Slow Horses, you’ll like this!
