FabList: Quiet Luxury Items

We often are torn about whether to feature budget, mid-range or high-end clothing on FabList. We don’t want to exclude or offend anyone based on price… be it too high or too low. We also know many of us wear a combo of these items, wearing a Uniqlo shirt under a high-end blazer, or carrying a high-end bag while wearing Gap jeans.

We’ve been reading a lot about “Quiet Luxury” lately.  At its core, quiet luxury is a fashion movement that emphasizes investment in high-quality, minimalist pieces that have timeless appeal. Many women these days seem to be leaning towards the ‘less quantity, higher quality’ mode of dressing so we wanted to offer some thoughts on these items and what might be worth the splurge. Often on a ‘cost per wear’ basis, these superior quality items end up being more economical than the ‘disposable clothing’ that is ditched within the first year of wear. These items also have strong resale opportunities.

Here are some brands, and particular items, to explore if you are thinking of investing in some quiet luxury items:

Toteme

A Swedish fashion house rooted in Scandinavian sensibilities, modern aspirations and the notion of style.  Known as a minimalist brand, Totême revolves around the idea of creating uniforms for different occasions – fewer pieces that can be styled in different ways.

Khaite

Khaite (pronounced ‘Kate’) came on the market a few years ago and has recently skyrocketed as an ‘it’ brand amongst fashionistas. Known for its superior quality and craftsmanship, it has a laid-back quiet luxury look and feel.

The Row

Started by Mary-Kate and Ashley Olson, The Row is the definition of Quiet Luxury with its calm palate, simple shapes and impeccable quality.

Max Mara

This long-time staple of quiet luxury fans worldwide, Max Mara has simple lines, amazing fabrics and classic styles that last a lifetime. Well known for their timeless collection of iconic coats

Loro Piana

Loro Piana has become popular of late as the uniform of the morally hideous Roy family in Succession, however, the company has been around since 1924 making the highest quality cashmere luxury items.

Bottega Veneta

Known for its timeless and elegant designs, as well as their meticulous approach to leather craftsmanship, including the infamous intrecciato woven leather handbags.

The Frankie Shop

Less expensive than most quiet luxury brands, The Frankie Shop is known for affordably priced wardrobe essentials for the perfect fashion capsule.

Veronica Beard

Known for its famous ‘Dickey blazer’, the brand has grown to include a variety of classic wardrobe staples made from luxury fabrics.
