Hostess Gifts for Summer Stays

Visiting family or friends this summer? Wondering what to bring them that can be used and appreciated? We have suggestions for you, whether you need something small for an overnight visit or a larger item for a week-long stay!

Beach/Pool/Lake Visit

New beach towels…but only if you bring at least four…don’t bring just one or two! If you are visiting a family you can even have their names monogrammed on them so everyone has their own. And if you are feeling generous, why not throw them into a canvas tote, which can also be monogrammed with the family name (or location name or whatever you want) on it? The bag can also be given without the towels of course.

Doing Some Hiking?

A small hiking pack with a bladder (ie has easily accessible water ‘hose’ for easy hydration) is great for hikes, as is a waist pack to carry phone, sunglasses, sunscreen while on the trail, or for around town.

Food & Drink!

You’ll likely be eating at least breakfast and possibly lunch and dinner at your hosts’ home, so why not send them some goodies ahead of time? A bunch of delicious (and Oprah approved) English muffins from the famed Model Bakery in Napa for breakfast?! Some wonderful cheeses from Cowgirl Creamery in Petaluma for apps? Some Memphis bbq ribs for dinner? The choices are endless…and all are appreciated.

Good Spices!

A friend brought Chrissie a variety of Burlap & Barrel spices and they are awesome – so much better than the regular Trader Joe’s options she had on hand. What a special, unique gift! The cinnamon and black lime & chili salt are her favorites/most used and have been reordered, and purchased as gifts for others!

Games/Puzzles

Bring the party!  This can be used while visiting and left behind for future visits!  Try any of the following:

Cocktail Kit/Items

Boost up their bar with some fun cocktail napkins, high-end mixers and spirits…even throw in a cool ice cube maker tray or a set of great cocktail glasses. Or, fill a beverage bucket/cooler with ice a few bottles of wine… and then if you want to go all out gift them the cooler too!

Personalized Coasters

Who doesn’t need more coasters? Plan ahead and have you’re visiting.

Personalized Tray

Plan ahead and have a lucite tray personalized with the family name, address, house name – the options are endless!!

Wine items

A new electric wine opener or some wine stoppers to preserve wine that’s been opened are good options.

Flowers or Greenery

Send a beautiful bouquet of flowers ahead of time from Bouqs…or why not a beautiful plant that will last much longer!

Spa Items

A couple stayed with us earlier this year and brought me an array of their favorite beauty items – what an awesome gift! It included Osea face cleanser, David’s toothpaste and Ilia Lip Mask, amongst many other gems! I’m still enjoying it!

Another spa related item is to give a gift certificate for a couples massage, a facial or a pedicure to use after your visit. Who wouldn’t love that!?

Get Cozy

Anthro has a super cozy blanket that comes in 6 colors and is perfectly weighted for a mid-day nap on the couch, or for extra warmth on a bed at night! Quince also has a great one that’s textured.

BIG GROUP GIFT

Are you and a few others descending on a friend’s home for a stay and want to go in on a group gift?  Here are some ideas for just such an occasion!

Yeti Cooler:  These are FAB and so appreciated.  You can even fill them with beverages, cheeses, etc . . . to bring the party! The one with wheels is very handy because coolers get heavy when fully loaded.

Countertop Pebble Ice Maker:  Jo received this from a group of friends who visited her and she now travels with it (when she drives!). This one doesn’t need to be hooked up to water – simply put it on the countertop, plug it in, fill it with water like a coffee maker, and it makes oodles of great crunchy pellets of ice in 10 minutes.

An Experience:  Why not give your hosts an experience they can do at a later date?  Tinggly has all kinds of great ideas – you can present your hosts with a gift card that can be used for a hotel getaway, skydiving, massages, etc. . . to help them recover from your visit!!
