We wear pants most days and dresses when it gets warm, but skirts are very on-trend this spring and summer, and we are very intrigued! They are loose, lightweight, hit below the knee, and are easy to throw on with a tee or cotton sweater. There are lots of “age-appropriate” options available that are a great fresh alternative to the pants we wear most days. Here are some on our radar.

Splendid Gigi Gingham A-Line Skirt: This one is so lightweight and won’t wrinkle, plus it has pockets! The price is a bit high for a cotton skirt, but this is one that would get a ton of wear at home and would be a great casual travel skirt for anyone heading on a warm summer holiday.

Ruti Cargo Skirt: The material is so light and crisp, plus it has great pockets and won’t wrinkle.

Quince European Linen Maxi Skirt: This one comes in three solid colors and two mini-gingham colorways. We like the big slit, the longer length, and the price point!

Quince A Line Cotton Skirt: This cotton option comes in three solid colors, including a non-sheer pure white for a summer look, as well as a light striped option. It also has pockets – a big bonus in our book!

Denim Skirt: Not ready to replace your jeans? Why not try a denim skirt to ease the transition! This one from the French brand Sezane is more tailored than some of the other options.

Gap Linen Blend Maxi Slip Skirt: I have this in two colors (I got it to go to India last year) and wear them all the time, especially the tan one. It comes in multiple color options, has a nice slit that doesn’t go too high, and it’s easy to throw it on with a tee or sweater. It’s a slight A-line shape.

Cotton Poplin Drawstring Maxi Skirt: Available in white or brown, this is a great option if you’re looking for a longer skirt.

This skirt from Rue Sophie has taken the internet by storm. Marketed as “The Skirt That Travels Well,” it is designed to hold its shape while on the move, making it a reliable piece for travel wardrobes. The crisp cotton with structured pleating, an elastic waist, and a functional drawstring tie allows for a personalized fit that can be worn high-waisted or lower on the hips.

Quince Pleated Matte Maxi Skirt: This one may not scream ‘summer,’ but this is a great skirt, so we had to include it! I (Chrissie) just got it in black (also comes in brown) and it reminds me of the pleated pieces Issey Miyake makes, but for $60! It hangs really well, and the pleats add a lot of texture and movement. It is a material that doesn’t wrinkle, so it’s a great travel option. Plus, you can wear it with boots and a leather jacket/sweater in the winter, or with a tee, denim jacket, and sandals in the summer (on the site, they show the brown one styled with a bikini top??? No thanks!). It has an elastic waist, so you can position it as high or low on your hips as you want.
