Are you hosting guests this summer? Whether they are friends or family, staying for a night or a week, there are a few things to have on hand to make your guests feel welcomed and appreciated.
Bedroom:
Bedding:
Get them the good stuff…which doesn’t always have to be expensive. The Company Store has beautiful cotton sheets. As does Brooklinen. If you’re a member at Costco, the Kirkland cotton sheets are amazing!
A blanket on the end of the bed and extra pillows in the closet.
Bedside Items:
Flowers! Put even just a single flower in a little vase (or jam jar – doesn’t need to be fancy!) at the bedside to welcome your guest(s). Try a little box of Fran’s sea salt caramels for the extra special guest!
A water glass/carafe for bedside, as well as a clock that’s easy to see at night.
Good, accessible charging set up. Give them accessible convenient plugs (don’t make them move the bed or have to climb under a table to reach an outlet!) to charge their phone, laptop, watch, and any other items that may need some power. Ideally, one on each side of the bed. Leave a note for them with the WIFI password as well as any other info they made need (alarm code, how to work the tv etc).
Reading Lamps: If you don’t have reading lights, try these cordless, rechargeable lights to make it easy for your guests to read in bed.
Plug-in Night Lights: Make it easy for your guests to navigate in the dark with this adjustable LED option!
Organization:
Luggage rack, or somewhere easy to put suitcases.
A ‘catchall tray’ for phone, jewelry, wallet, etc.
Nice, matching hangers in the closet.
Bathroom:
Good Bath Products
Chrissie has one friend who has such wonderful bath products in her guest room that it’s a pure delight to take a shower when visiting! Good shampoo, conditioner, body wash, and a clean razor are needed for the shower. For the sink area, provide nice hand soap, fresh toothpaste, a spare bamboo toothbrush, a water glass, a blow dryer, and a clean brush and comb. Extra points for flowers in a little vase, sunscreen and lotion.
And make it easy on yourself by keeping these items in a basket under the sink that you can pull out when your guests come!
Good Towels
Nothing is better than a good set of clean, fluffy, matching, absorbent towels/hand towels/washcloths to welcome you into someone’s home as a guest!
Kitchen:
Ask your guests ahead of time what they like for breakfast so you can have that on hand, including what kind of coffee or tea they like. Then if they get up before you, they can do their own thing to start off the day. A Nespresso coffee maker is loved by all and easy to use!

I usually place a small individually wrapped piece of chocolate on a guest’s pillow and it’s always a hit! Makes everyone smile.
