Quince is a favorite of ours, and in addition to what we buy from them they also kindly let us try some of their items to see what we think. So over the past few months we’ve checked out many of their products (some of which we’ve mentioned in other posts) and we wanted to sum up our favorites here, as well as a couple that didn’t hit the mark.
If you’re new to Quince, we love it because it provides luxury-quality products at an affordable price point. They emphasize transparency in pricing and sustainable practices, and focus on classic, minimalistic styles that are versatile and timeless. They also offer free returns for 365 days!!! Their $50 cashmere crewneck sweater, that launched the brand to stardom, is a FabList staple, as well as many other clothing and home products. And don’t forget that Quince also offers similar products for men – sweaters, shirts, activewear, outerwear, and more, as well as housewares, linens, jewelry, luggage, handbags and lots more. And furniture launched this month!
They are launching denim August 29 with 4 styles, and more coming in October. They are also taking the luxury of their cashmere up a notch with ‘improved handfeel’, ‘enhanced yarn tension’ and ‘advanced pilling reaistance’ – launching in September. Plus new Outerwear Jackets launching soon, new luggage colors and more – they are busy over there at Quince!
Now, on to the show! Here are our recent ratings!
Clothing:
Bathing Suit:
Jo ordered the Italian Cami One Piece suit to test it out vs. the La Blanca Island Goddess suit she typically wears. The Quince suit gets high marks and for the price – $49.90 vs. $83 – it’s a win!
Rating: A
Ultra-Soft Scoop Neck Racerback Bra:
Jo recently tried this product and loves it. At $29.90 it is half the price of Lululemon and other comparable brands. It has a classic racerback and is made from super soft 4-way antibacterial and sweat wicking fabric. Jo especially likes its thin straps because they don’t cut in at the neck. A win!
Rating: A
Ultra-Form Scoop Neck Longline Bra:
Chrissie tried this exercise bra, LOVES it and it’s the first one she grabs out of the workout drawer. So soft and comfortable and great for a work out. The band below the boobs is about 1.5” wide so it doesn’t fold over and scrunch up in an uncomfortable way.
Rating: A+
Jo and Chrissie both got these at the start of summer and wore them on repeat. Ringing in at $40, they are more than half the price of the competition. They have a relaxed fit, wide elastic waistband that doesn’t fold over, drawstring, and functional front pockets. They run a bit big, but Jo likes a relaxed fit. Available in 9 colors/patterns, a win.
Rating: A
Chrissie got these and doesn’t like them as much as the wide leg pants…just not very flattering and the waist band isn’t as wide as the wide legged ones. They are good…but not great.
Rating: B
European Linen Long Sleeved Shirt:
Chrissie got this in navy to be a ‘coordinated look’ with the linen pants. It’s a bit long on her shorter torso when it’s buttoned up, and she wishes the cuffs had one more button as it’s hard to roll up the sleeves very far. She does like it worn open over a tshirt though and feels really good in it that way. That said, when she wore it together, buttoned up, with the pants she got a complements on the look as it makes for a very unified coordinated look.
Rating: B+
Speaking of a bit taller…Jo got the shirt in a light blue version and loves her and wears it all the time. She is taller than Chrissie so this is probably the difference.
Rating: A
Jo tried this ‘cause she saw her friend in a Loro Piana cashmere baseball cap, thought it would be a good wardrobe add, but didn’t want to spend $675 on a baseball hat (although I’m sure the Loro Piana one is very nice!). The packaging was so impressive – it would be a special gift because the boxing is so nice! It comes in 5 colors (Jo got classic black), it’s made from rare, 100% Grade-A Mongolian cashmer, and lined with gorgeous fleece. It also has a genuine leather tab & back strap to truly elevate this simple piece. A win!
Rating: A
This is what put Quince on the map and it is a FabList favorite. For $50, you can’t find a cheaper sweatshirt and this is 100% Mongolian cashmere! Available in 14 colors, it’s lightweight, soft, and perfect for anytime of year or occasion. Jo wore hers for three weeks straight on an unexpected extended trip and it behaved beautifully!
Rating: A
Lightweight Cotton Cashmere Cardigan:
Jo recently tried this and wore it as her cover-up on a recent two week trip and it performed! Extra-soft, lightweight, breathable, and blended with a touch of cashmere for that extra bit of cozy. It also washed up well! A win at $40.
Chrissie got it in beige and also loves it – it’s a great weight and is perfect for over the shoulders (without being bulky) and worn with dresses etc. She may get it in another color as it’s so versatile – it’s one of those not very exciting purchases that you find yourself wearing a lot.
Rating: A
Lightweight Cashmere Cotton Crewneck:
This is the crew version of the sweater above – another not exciting purchase you’ll wear all the time. Chrissie got this in grey, and went up a size for a looser fit, and loves it. It’s one of those unassuming pieces in your wardrobe that you didn’t know you needed until you have it! She’s worn it alone as a shirt with jeans, over shirts, over her shoulders, on the airplane etc. It’s the best kind of basic.
Rating: A
Single Breasted Convertible Scuba Blazer:
This may be one of Chrissie’s favorite Quince items ever! It’s a dupe for the $$$ Veronica Beard dicky blazer and it’s an amazing quality and fit. Throw on with jeans and a tee and you are set to go! Snap cuffs and zip pockets make it special and, like the VB version, you can swap in ‘dicky’ inserts (like this cashmere hoodie or this cashmere one) to completely change the look. She’s waitlisted for this gold buttoned double breasted VB dupe! THIS IS A GREAT BUY!
Rating: A+
Organic Cotton Relaxed Oxford Shirt:
This is a new Quince item that Chrissie got in pale blue to test. It’s a really nice heavy oxford cotton – like a men’s shirt type of material – not a thin or ‘smooth’ type of cotton. The curved hem cut is a great flattering shape that can be worn out or as a half tuck (I probably wouldn’t tuck it all the way in given it’s a heavier cotton and has a nice hem shape), and it’s not too long which is nice (some of these shirts go down to my knees practically but I can wear this one out comfortably). I am happily wearing it now with the Flowknit pants discussed below – super comfy!
Rating: A
These pants are a new favorite lounge pair for Chrissie! The material is great, they are not tight but not too loose… so they are great for around the house but you can also wear them out and not feel like you look sloppy. Other lounge pants will be thrown out to make room for these in the drawer.
Rating: A
Ultra Soft Cropped Bootcut Pant:
These workout pants weren’t Chrissie’s favorite as they were pretty tight and did not come in black, her preferred workout pants color. The material however is like butter! Perhaps sizing up will make them an ‘A’ (we’ll let you know!)? They are cropped on her 5”4 frame, so on taller people would be very cropped.
Rating: B
Mongolian Oversized Boyfriend Cashmere Sweater:
This was on a special one-day sale, and Chrissie was wanting a brown sweater (and this is a beautiful brown) so it was an odd summer purchase, but a good one! A good brown is tricky to find, and this is a good brown. It’s big and oversized so SIZE DOWN (and even then it’s still very oversized)! It’s the perfect ‘weekend wear with jeans and a tee to feel cozy’ sweater that feels like a hug. It has pilled a bit…but then most cashmere seems to these days?
Rating: A
Chrissie tried it, as it compares to the Alex Mill one she loves…but the cropped thing just didn’t work. Nice sweater, but for a younger audience as it was too cropped (as the description said it was but she was hoping it was a tad longer which would have been perfect!)! Back it went.
Rating: B-
Men’s Clothing:
We’ve gotten great men’s clothing in the past but had a miss with these two pair of pants recently as they just weren’t what we were looking for.
Chrissie’s husband was in the market for nice pants that were comfortable so we tested these but they didn’t fit the bill and were returned. He liked the Vuori material more than these.
Rating: B-
Comfort Stretch Traveler Pants:
Chrissie’s husband also tried these and they also didn’t work (as we recall the material wasn’t what he was looking for…) so back they went. They do have terrific reviews by hundreds of people though!
Rating: B
Accessories:
WOW! This was an amazing package to open! Jo received this recently and immediately sent Chrissie a photo of this beauty! Enclosed in its own silk drawstring bag, this under $20 product is the best deal in town and would make a special gift! Wearing an eye mask promotes deeper sleep to maximize your zzzs and the silk fiber contains 18 kinds of amino acids that make it amazing for skin nourishment, hypo-allergenic, and naturally thermo regulating to help maintain body temperature. Need we say more?
Rating: A
Jo tried this for her Apple watch for a less sporty/dressier look. It comes in 10 colors (Jo got the classic cognac) and is hand crafted from the finest top-grain calf leather and features sleek saddle stitching and a stainless steel buckle. The price is $29.90 vs. Bellroy at $69 and Shinola at $150. Definitely a win and Jo wants to order another color (Dune)!
Rating: A
Italian Thin Leather Credit Card Case:
Jo lost her favorite Celine credit card case (and all the credit cards :(), was hesitant to try the Quince, and was presently surprised! For $30, it features two card slots and one center compartment to carry the essentials. Jo fits 6 cards: credit cards, drivers license, and insurance card. An added bonus is sustainability – this is made from excess leather from other Quince leather products. A win.
Rating: A
Luggage:
Carry-On Hard Shell Suitcase – 21″:
An Away dupe, Jo has been using this carry-on all year long and loves it. At $130 it is more than half the price of Away and other luggage. It is ultra-light, features Japanese-crafted Hinomoto 360 degree wheels, TSA-approved lock, smooth gliding telescopic handle, and YKK zippers. A win!
Rating: A
Home:
Down Alternative Duvet Insert:
Chrissie’s duvet insert was very ‘tired’ (flat, never staying in the corners correctly etc) and she was recently in Switzerland and was entranced by the super thick/heavy but not too hot duvets that were like perfectly weighted clouds. So she ordered this one from Quince in the hopes that it could bring her some of that Swiss bliss. $150 for a king-sized duvet insert is amazing (and it comes in three warmth options). Although it is not a foot thick like the ones in Switzerland (never seen those for sale!), it’s a terrific weight and will be staying put on Chrissie’s bed as she loves it.
